Students engage in over 1,400 hours of dedicated lecture, lab, clinical, and capstone-based paramedic education designed to meet the needs of the next phase in professionalization of paramedic training. The course is conducted at 2120 L Street NW, Washington, DC 20037 and at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences CLASS center in ROSS Hall. This is an intensive, rigorous Monday through Friday course, with some weekend clinicals, that draws from the expertise of our core faculty as well as subject matter experts in the region. Students complete clinical rotations at GW Hospital, United Medical Center, and Children’s National Hospital through core rotations in the Emergency Department, Anesthesia, Critical Care, Psychiatry, Trauma Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics in Labor and Delivery. Trainees also participate in EMS Field Experiences and EMS Capstone Internships with their respective EMS agencies.

For the upcoming Paramedic cohort admissions are limited to our public safety partners who have collaborated on the development of this program, and we anticipate being able to build this program in the future to continue to serve the needs of the greater Washington, DC community.
This paramedic training program is a longitudinal, 11.5-month course designed to take students from practicing Emergency Medical Technicians to Paramedics. Successful completion of the program will provide the students with the foundational knowledge and skills to prepare them for clinical practice as Paramedics and is a prerequisite for taking the National Registry cognitive examination. The program incorporates didactic teaching, hands-on labs, small group sessions, problem-based learning, and clinical and capstone experiences. Students who successfully complete the program will be eligible to pursue full academic credit, if they wish, at regular tuition rates.
